Apologies to be away for a while
Hi guys,
in the last month, I have been really busy. So I couldn't update my blog, but in the next week, I'll try to bring back the lost time.
In the last weeks, I worked in Skyline Ife, producing a really cool commercial (undisclosed), in Partizan producing a musical video for an internationals Singer (unluckly is still protected from copyright but it should be out in a few weeks) and a couple of weeks in Painting Practice for another commercial (undisclosed).
This summer has been really really great.
Just one week to my holiday, in September I'll by out mostly of the month to recharge my batteries, and to be ready start again another awesome year in the City.
See you soon guys.

Beautiful Bryce
From the author of this awesome timelapse:
Bryce Canyon is one of the most beautiful National Parks in the US and I had the pleasure to shoot time-lapse there in April and May 2013. Bryce is not really a canyon but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters. Bryce Canyon is distinctive due to geological structures called hoodoos, formed by frost weathering and stream erosion of the river and lake bed sedimentary rocks.
While the rim at Bryce varies from 8,000 to 9,000 feet (2,400 to 2,700m) the red, orange, and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views and the nights are cold even in the summer month.

Playground, Italy - Matty Brown
Met a bunch of amazing Italian strangers in the northern region of Trentino, Italy who took me way up into the Italian alps to go hiking and mountain biking. People have been asking me to make a sports video, so thought it would be fun to try it out! A week of run and gun fun! I feel like I now have a second family deep in the mountains of Italy!
Thank you everyone who guided me through and took me in with welcoming smiles and giving me such a great adventure! Special thank you to Mikaela Bandini, Chiara De Pol, Paolo Pincelli, Caspar Diederik, and Lucia Pecoraro.
And to all the bikers and hikers who took me way up into the mountains to show me the Italian way of life! You guys are truly an inspiration! I hope to be as cool as all of you someday, haha! :)

Another great project: Weber Shandwick - Matteo Sanna personal work
I just finished another great experience. I worked for a month at Weber Shandwick, recognised as one of the 100 Best Companies to work for in the UK by the Sunday Times in 2012.
I had a really great time producing 2 videos of medical animations. I was in charge of the entire production: modelling, shader, rigging, animation, render & lighting, compositing and final editing. It was a funny work.
Hope to work again in this environment. I'll post soon the videos.

"It has been several weeks since my last Animator page posting. As you're probably all well aware by now, I no longer work for The Walt Disney Company. June 10th was my last day. In October of this year, it would have been 25 years. Disney was my home for the last quarter century and I'll always be grateful for the people I worked with and the experience I gained there. The last couple of years have been the most difficult of my career. At times I was filled with hope that my skills would be utilized in a new hand-drawn film. At other times, I doubted that a hand-drawn feature -- hybrid or otherwise -- would be produced at all. We were pretty much kept in the dark for over 2 years and once the word did come out that no more hand-drawn features would be produced, it was only a matter of days before we were "given our notices". I'm not so much sad that I was let go as I am sad that they gave up on a medium that, if given the right treatment, could be a viable product once again. You may wonder, what will I be doing now. I can't tell you that because I don't know. It is said that when God closes one door, He opens another. I pray that He will guide me to the right door and that I'll open it with confidence. Not in myself but in Him who guides my path.
As a parting reminder of my last years at Disney, here is my last hand-drawn test for a Disney production. I was asked to animate the character of Ralph from "Wreck-it Ralph", as a guide for the animation of the character in the film. It took me 2 months to animate this scene because,
1. I had to adjust the look of the character as it changed, which meant redoing some of it and
2. I basically did all the drawings myself. Most animators don't do every drawing in a scene, but I wanted it fully animated and since I didn't have any inbetweeners, I had to draw everything.

Life of Pi VFX breakdown - MPC
Have a look at this breakdown on "Life of Pi".
MPC VFX Supervisor Guillaume Rocheron and VFX Producer Genevieve West led the team, delivering over 110 shots in native stereo.
MPC's main areas of work included creating two massive storm sequences: the sinking of Pi's cargo ship The Tsimtsum, and the Storm of God, the dramatic climax to Pi's journey aboard his marooned lifeboat. Other work included animating over 20 panicked animals aboard the sinking ship, creating a CG lizard, hornbill and Cassowaries for the opening titles and the first shots of Pi leaving India on board The Tsimtsum.

Sehsucht on his commercial : In the business world it's said that everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Well, we'd rather take notes for the two new spots in our 2013 installment of the beloved Bank Coop Origami commercials. Short stories need big characters. The underwater performers show emotions and proof that little ones more than ever have the chance to win. Composer Alex Kirschner supports the tension of the film with a score recorded by an orchestra of 50 people conducting the ever modern battle big versus little.

Iron Man 3:Hud + gfx process reel - Cantina Creative
In late 2012 I joined forces with Cantina Creative to help deliver over 100 shots for IRON MAN 3.
Marvel tasked us with designing all the elaborate 3D head-up displays (HUDs) – a virtual graphical interface that Iron Man sees from within the helmet environment of his armored suits that communicate essential data and statistics ranging from his physical condition to weapon and navigational diagnostics – While putting strong emphasis on the new ultra-high-tech Mark 42 suit, we also delivered upgraded HUDs to match the new suits seen in the film. It was great fun.
All of the 3D elements, including a miniature version of the suit and the holographic helmet, were generated and rendered from CINEMA 4D. These graphics had true 3D depth, which heightened the stereo viewing experience as well as the interactive light qualities that are both photo-real and immersive.
This is a process montage that was created to give some insight into the development and design thinking stages of the work I was specifically involved with on the film.

Danang International Fireworks Competition 2013 (Vietnam)
The only thing better than a fireworks show is a fireworks competition. (Leslie Horn - Gizmodo.)
The event is regarded by many as the biggest and best fireworks competition in the world. The video captures some of the scale of the spectacular fireworks and the excitement of the booming city of Da Nang, Vietnam.
Teams from USA, Russia, Japan, Italy and Home Team Da Nang competed in the event with the Melrose Pyrotechnics team from the USA taking the grand prize.

London in 1927 - Claude Friese Greene
Incredible colour footage of 1920s London shot by an early British pioneer of film named Claude Friese-Greene, who made a series of travelogues using the colour process his father William - a noted cinematographer - was experimenting with. It's like a beautifully dusty old postcard you'd find in a junk store, but moving.

JUSTIN (Freddie Highmore) lives in a kingdom where bureaucrats rule and knights have been ousted. His dream is to be become one of the Knights of Valour, like his grandfather was, but his father REGINALD (Alfred Molina), the chief counsel to the QUEEN (Olivia Williams), wants his son to follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer.
After an inspiring visit to his beloved GRANDMOTHER (Julie Walters) and bidding farewell to his supposed lady-love LARA (Tamsin Egerton), JUSTIN leaves home and embarks on a quest to become a knight. BIOSTAGOG - Platige Image
Platige Image and Bridge created BIOSTAGOG – an interactive sculpture which combines algorithmic design, 3D printing, mapping and interaction.
This parametrically generated, multicellular form has been integrated with projection and by that it gives a possibility of interaction between installation and its audience.
BIOSTAGOG can display creative content made by artists working at Platige Image and by using Kinect technology it may equally involve both the company staff and the visitors.

Nicklodeon Id - Plenty
Great work by Plenty.
After winning the pitch (together with FunJob) for the creation of the new idents for NICK, we jumped into an ambitious project by proposing an idea based on a mix of techniques to obtain a different result. That’s how we set out to create each ident by using the frame-by-frame animation technique first and then modelling each of them in 3D. This gave the idents a handmade appearance and allowed us to win absolute freedom in the transitions. All of this was based on an extremely minimalistic art direction and a set of great characters designed by FunJob, and received the finishing touch with the spectacular audio created by Norman Bambi.
